James always believed in the power of young leadership and the great potential of even the most remote subsistence farmer. During a trip to the Tanga region in 2007, James perceived the great inefficiencies in the agricultural production and distribution systems amongst the local population. After brainstorming with his friend Edward Komba, a priest of the Diocese of Tanga, James recruited Sam Bonsey and Jesse Uddenberg to work with Rev. Komba and Mzee Mntambo to improve agricultural production in the village of Kwakiliga. The success of the initiative led to the creation of 2Seeds Network in 2009.
James graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in philosophy and economic development in Latin America. He has worked in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Africa. He served two tours in Iraq, earning a bronze star and purple heart. Upon leaving the Army, James received an MBA in Global Management from Stanford University, and later became the COO and SVP for Business Development at Swissport Americas. Currently, James lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan and serves as the CEO of MOVE Systems, an innovative clean energy company bringing smart solutions to New York City.
